Bird Zapper! is a match-three puzzle game where multiple stacked rows of birds scroll at a fixed speed to the right side of the screen. The player has to create matches by connecting three birds or more of the same type and colour by dragging a line across the screen. This needs to be done quickly as there is scrolling and birds can no longer be matched when they disappear off the screen.The main Survival mode starts with three lines, but this gradually expands to up to five. There is an energy gauge at the bottom of the screen that drains gradually and shows the remaining amount of electricity to zap birds before the round is over. Creating matches replenishes the meter. The game keeps track of the score and rewards combos. Blitz is a different game mode with a time limit. There zapping 1,000 birds provides a battery that replenishes energy to continue playing, instead of moving on to a new round in Survival. These batteries can also be bought as in-app purchases. Zen is the third and final mode with energy nor time limits.There are power-ups such as ice blocks that freeze birds on the screen, dynamite that can blow up multiple birds at once, a military bird that takes out all birds of a single type on the screen, and a joker bird that dazes all birds on the screen allowing the player to slow down or speed up movement by tilting the device.There are story elements showing the character Skippy the Squirrel who is hit by power outages because birds keep hijacking the power lines.
